This course has set me on a new career path and given me a holistic approach to designing…anything! In particular, the course helped me solve how to make efficient use of our steeply sloped land. By linking our new house’s systems with the ecological systems around it we will change an unstable and eroded slope into a food forest that produces food for both humans and wildlife.

It will also build soil, capture carbon, and re-use domestic water. At the beginning of the course, I only expected to gain skills to design our homestead, but I now also have such a broader perspective of how to weave together our work with what is going on in our broader community. Lastly, I also greatly appreciated the opportunity to connect with a community of such inspiring and supportive women.
